Dental Care

Just like with people, oral health is a very important part of your pet’s overall health.  Periodontal disease doesn’t just affect  the mouth.  A thorough oral exam during your pet’s yearly wellness exam is needed to detect signs of oral issues to keep your pet’s mouth healthy.

Signs to look out for:

  • bad breath
  • bleeding from the mouth
  • discoloration/staining
  • tartar build up
  • drooling
  • decreased appetite, dropping food out of mouth
  • facial swelling

If you notice any of the above, schedule an oral exam for your pet as soon as possible.

Most pets have some degree of periodontal disease by age  3 years .  Without intervention, this will worsen as the pet ages and can cause significant issues.  Advanced periodontal disease is painful and affects more than just your pet’s mouth.  The bacteria in the bloodstream can cause damage to the heart, liver, and kidneys.

Regular dental cleaning and a good home, oral health regime will help keep your pet’s smile healthy and bright.
