News and Info

We are closely monitoring the guidance from the CDC and taking the appropriate precautions to ensure that our clients, their pets and our team members stay safe and healthy.

River City Companion Animal Hospital is committed to the health and safety of every client, pet, employee, and family member. The Covid-19 pandemic has the potential to endanger our health and also to suddenly quarantine the majority of our hospital's staff. In an effort to minimize the risk for all and to try and stay ahead of the curve, we are making some changes to how we provide patient care.

Beginning Friday, 3/20/20, we are shifting to “curb-side” or drop off service. We feel this is the best way to continue to provide care while keeping everyone’s risk of exposure to a minimum.

Upon arrival, you will call the clinic and a team member will get your pet checked in and confirm your contact number.

A technician will call you to review history, discuss services to be performed and get all pertinent information.

We will then come to your vehicle to retrieve your pet.

Once Dr. Kohnen has examined your pet, we will call you to discuss any recommended treatment/diagnostics.

When treatment is complete, we will call you to facilitate payment over the phone and then meet you at the front door with your pet.

You may either wait in your vehicle or return later for pickup.

We kindly ask any clients (and staff) who have recently traveled through a high-risk country, have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, personally tested positive for COVID-19, or having fever or respiratory symptoms should avoid coming to the hospital. If your pet is experiencing a medical emergency, please call us and we can determine the best course of action for all.

Corona Virus and pets CORONAVIRUS PSA

Coronavirus: can you catch it from your furry best friend? According to the World Health Organization, there’s no evidence to suggest that pets pose a risk for contracting or spreading COVID-19 to other pets and people.

Though your pets are not at risk of COVID-19 infection, there are other diseases that can cause illness in animals and spread from animals to people. To be safe, it is always a good idea to wash your hands after being around animals, bedding, toys and bowls.

In addition to our already rigorous standards of cleanliness, we have increased the frequency of sanitizing all areas of the hospital to ensure safety for all.

To provide the best care for your pets our team must remain healthy. If you are sick or have flu like symptoms please reschedule your pet's appointment or arrange for a drop off appointment.

Keeping your pets parasite-free requires a year-round commitment.
Since ticks, mosquitoes and fleas can survive in areas that experience cold winters, just one missed dose of your pet's preventive can have serious consequences.
Internal parasites can affect your pet year-round too. Heartworms, roundworms, whipworms, hookworms and tapeworms may be invisible, but they can have deadly consequences. Some can even infect the human members of your family.
Stopping and starting your pet's preventives is not worth the risk. We can help you determine the best year-round program for your pet. Give us a call!
